Boon’s Calibre Travel 2021

 The Dorset Explorer

2021 departure date to be confimed

5 days, half-board

Join us for a relaxing break based in the South Coast's premier resort, Bournemouth “Queen of the South Coast”; a perfect location from which to explore the delightful county of Dorset, an area immortalised by one of its most famous residents, the Victorian novelist & poet, Thomas Hardy. Our three included excursions offer plenty of variety; with visits to historic towns and traditional seaside resorts, and a nostalgic journey on the Swanage Steam Railway. In addition, there will be the opportunity to explore the cathedral city of Chichester and the historic castle town of Arundel en-route.

Located on the prestigious East Cliff, overlooking the bay, Bournemouth’s Ocean Beach Hotel is just a short stroll from the beach and the vibrant town centre. Decorated in a modern, rustic beach style with onsite Spa and Italian Café, this 3-star standard hotel is an ideal base for our tour. The en-suite bedrooms are comfortable, with modern décor, and many have stunning sea views. There is a lift, ground floor rooms, two adapted rooms and some rooms with walk-in shower. An indoor swimming pool is available at the neighbouring sister hotel.

Our scenic tour continues around Lyme Bay, via the pretty village of Abbotsbury, to elegant Weymouth, a classic English seaside resort set on a beautiful Georgian bay, with a level promenade, colourful harbour, busy marina and excellent pedestrianised shopping centre. After a lovely day we return to Bournemouth.

A world renowned sailing resort, with two large marinas, the also town boasts a number of interesting independent shops, cafes and the Old Town Quay, which is still used by commercial fishing boats. We return to our hotel for time at leisure in Bournemouth, with its award-winning beaches, gardens and vibrant centre. Alternatively, join our excursion to Compton Acres (admission extra), one of the most important ornamental gardens in England, boasting 10 acres of spectacular blooms, trees and shrubs, comprising Italian, Japanese, Rock and Water Gardens.
