Boon’s Calibre Travel 2026

A Festival of Christmas…Markets & Minsters

Departs Friday 11th December 2026 for 3 days, half-board

Join us for this wonderful short break where we have shopping opportunities galore and the opportunity to soak up the festive atmosphere of the magnificent city of York and the historic market town of Beverley, both beautifully decorated for the season, with their Christmas Markets in full swing. York’s “St Nicholas Fair” runs every day for several weeks, however, Beverley’s “Festival of Christmas”, the UK’s largest one-day market, takes place on just one Sunday each year. Add to this, two nights at a lovely 4* hotel and a visit to Grantham’s popular Downtown Store, and we have the recipe for a perfect pre-Christmas get-away.

Our hotel is East Yorkshire’s modern Best Western “Signature Collection” 4* Humber View Hotel, beautifully situated within 17 acres of landscaped grounds, in North Ferriby, with stunning views of the famous Humber Bridge, once the longest single-span suspension bridge on earth. All stylish en-suite bedrooms are tastefully furnished and well equipped, there is a contemporary wine bar and restaurant, with panoramic views of the Humber Estuary. The leisure centre boasts a gym, sauna and spa. No lift, but several ground floor bedrooms.

Day 1: We depart from our local boarding points, and head north via the great North Road. We make an extended stop en-route for shopping and lunch at Grantham’s popular Downtown Store, a massive retail outlet and garden centre boasting a treasure-trove of quality products for the home and lifestyle. Time to pick up a bargain in one of the many departments…cook shop, electrical, toys, interior décor, garden, fashion, shoes and beauty essentials, to name just a few…. before we continue on to our hotel, where we arrive in good time for dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast today we head for the fascinating, walled city of York, renowned for its exquisite architecture, tangle of quaint cobbled streets, including the famous Shambles, and the iconic York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. For the festive season, the historic streets of this charming medieval city are transformed for the ultimate Christmas extravaganza. Alongside the usual high street names and unique specialist shops, the magical market stalls of St Nicholas Fair are a delight. Soak up the atmosphere and follow the aromas of mulled wine and festive treats, for a truly special shopping experience. Don’t forget to visit the Mister, with its display of beautifully decorated Christmas trees, before we return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 3: We depart soon after breakfast, however, we can’t leave the area without first visiting historic Beverley’s “Festival of Christmas”, the UK’s largest one-day market. This attractive town of cobbled streets and charming courtyards, famous for its unspoilt medieval skyline and splendid 13th century Minster, is, for just one day only, transformed into a magical Christmas shopper’s wonderland!! Discover over 120 stalls offering everything you need to have yourself a “merry little Christmas”. Santa and his special reindeer will be joining in the celebrations and there’s plenty to keep the whole family entertained with traditional fairground rides, birds of prey, the country’s largest Christmas tree display in the Minster, and the sounds of traditional brass bands drifting through the December air. Ample time to find that special gift or Christmas decoration, before we return home to Essex, with comfort stops en-route.
