Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points, we make our way to Bournemouth, stopping en-route at the popular Polhill Garden Centre and then again in Winchester, “the perfect English city”, with its magnificent Gothic cathedral, boasting the longest nave in Europe. After lunch, our journey takes us through the beautiful New Forest, where ponies and cattle roam freely amongst the heathlands, mighty oaks, beeches and lofty pines, where we arrive at our hotel in good time for dinner.

Day 2: Today we travel across the Purbeck Downs to the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, set on a breathtaking Georgian bay, with its level promenade, fascinating harbour, sandy beaches and the usual shopping areas. On leaving Weymouth we make our way, alongside Chessil Beach, to the Isle of Portland, home of the famous Portland Stone and a mecca for bird watchers, where we make a brief stop to view the lighthouse and Pulpit Rock, before returning to Bournemouth.

Day 3: After breakfast today, we travel via the historic market town of Wareham, and past the striking ruins of Corfe Castle, to the Victorian seaside resort of Swanage, at the eastern edge of the world famous Jurassic Coast. Ample opportunity to explore the town with its pier, level promenade and sweeping, sandy bay, before returning to our hotel for time at leisure.

Day 4: On leaving our hotel, we commence our journey home, stopping en-route at Guilford Cathedral, where refreshments may be taken in the refectory. Our lunchtime visit is Royal Windsor, with a multitude of attractions, dominated by its magnificent castle. Ample opportunity to explore this wonderfully historic town, before we return to Essex.
