Boon’s Calibre Travel 2024

Captivating Cornwall

Departs Friday 27th September 2024 for 5 days, half-board

Once again we join our friends at the popular Rosemundy Hotel, in the picturesque coastal Cornish village of St Agnes, with its thriving, friendly community, fascinating museum, beautiful beaches & breathtaking scenery. This fabulous holiday boasts three excursions taking in the pretty fishing villages of Mevagissey & St Ives, Doc Martin’s Port Isaac, the popular seaside resort of Falmouth, and the harbour village of Charlestown and the elegant NT Trerice Estate, with their links to Poldark.

In addition, our tour takes us past the magical St Michaels Mount have we some time at leisure in St Agnes.

Our hotel is the welcoming, family run AA 3* Rosemundy House, an elegant Queen Anne residence dating back to the 1780’s, beautifully situated amongst secluded gardens and woodlands, where we are assured of a warm welcome and excellent cuisine. The Rosemundy is ideally situated to explore the county of Cornwall and is also a comfortable home-from-home when at leisure. All well appointed en-suite bedrooms are on either the ground or first floor; for relaxation, there are comfortable lounges; and for the more energetic there is croquet & putting on the lawns. Meals are waitress served in the attractive restaurant, known as the Tom Noggi Room (Guests should note that smart casual attire is required for evening dinner please - no shorts or jeans). There is entertainment on some evenings.

Friday 27th: We depart from our local boarding points and head for the Southwest, with comfort stops en-route. On arrival in St Agnes, porters take care of our luggage while we settle into our rooms.

Saturday 28th: After breakfast today, we make our way to the harbour village of Charlestown; a Georgian “new town” which was developed in the 1700’s to export copper & china clay. Largely, unspoilt, with rugged coastal views and a working port, the original grade II listed harbour was a film location for the recent TV series, Poldark. Time for coffee, before we head along the coast to pretty Mevagissey, a traditional Cornish fishing port with quaint shops and colourful cottages lining the busy harbour. We return to St Agnes to either relax in our lovely hotel or to explore the pretty coastal village; look out for Stippy Stappy, the row of pretty sea captains cottages, which tumble down the hillside; and also the remains of the stone built engine houses, a reminder of the area’s mining past; perhaps take a walk down to the beautiful Trevaunance Cove.

Sunday 29th: After breakfast today, we travel via the resort of Perranporth, with its golden sands, former home of Poldark author, Winston Graham, to the pretty fishing village of Port Isaac, a popular film and TV location, most recently, transformed into fictional Port Wenn for the successful comedy drama Doc Martin, staring Martin Clunes. On our return to St Agnes, we visit NT Trerice, an elegant Elizabethan Manor House, with fine interiors and delightful gardens, inspiration for Trenwith, the Poldark family home. Note: Entry to Trerice House is extra, NT Members FREE.

Monday 30th: Today’s excursion takes us to the charming resort and fishing village of St Ives, with its splendid beaches, fine views and mild climate. The beauty of St Ives has always attracted artists, and in recent times it has become an important centre of the arts, with museums, including the renowned Tate, and galleries adding to its appeal. We then take a scenic route, via Mounts Bay, and past the magical St Michaels Mount, to the popular seaside resort of Falmouth, known as “the Queen of the Cornish Rivera”, with its mild sub-tropical climate, a deep natural harbour and fine shopping centre.

Tuesday 1st: After breakfast this morning, we commence our return journey, with comfort stops en-route. We arrive back in Essex early evening.

Includes: 4 nights half-board (dinner, bed & breakfast) in en-suite bedrooms, porterage, ground floor rooms, walk-in showers, disabled rooms, entertainment, 3 excursions. Note: no lift.
