Autumn Tints…Devon Delights

Departs Friday 23rd October 2026 for 4 days, half board

Treat yourself to a few days away from it all on our lovely Autumn Tints tour for 2026…

As summer’s greenery turns into the astonishing array of golds, yellows & oranges of autumn, we’d love you to join us on this splendid 4-day break to South Devon, where we stay, once again, at the popular Headland Hotel. Our tour includes two excursions around the area, and there are visits to the Roman city of Bath and Dorset’s historic Sherborne on our outward & return journeys. The highlights of our tour are a steam train ride from the seaside resort of Paignton to ancient Dartmouth, with its seafaring history, and a visit to East Devon’s beautiful Bicton Botanical Gardens, aglow with seasonal colours.

Our hotel, is the elegant 3* Headland, superbly situated in the resort of Torquay, in the centre of the “English Riviera”. Set in two acres of grounds, with panoramic views across stunning Tor Bay, the hotel, formally a grand private residence for the Russian Royal family, boasts stylish public areas, well-appointed en-suite bedrooms and a comprehensive leisure centre. There is a lift, accessible bedrooms, ground floor rooms and some rooms have a walk-in shower.

Headland Hotel & Spa, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 2EF Tel: 01803-295 666

Day 1: We depart from our local boarding points and head for the Southwest, stopping en-route in the beautiful city of Bath, where hot springs, Roman Baths, a splendid Abbey & Georgian stone crescents have attracted visitors for centuries. After lunch, we continue our journey to Torquay, arriving at the Headland in good time for dinner

Day 2: After breakfast, we make our way to the delightful resort of Paignton where we join the spectacular Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway for one of the finest steam train trips in the country. We travel along the coast of Torbay, through stunning Devon countryside, to Kingswear. From Kingswear, a ferry takes us across the river to historic Dartmouth, situated on the beautiful Dart estuary; an attractive town, with ancient narrow streets, famous for its seafaring history, and often used as a film set. Ample time to explore and to take lunch in one of the many eating establishments, before we head back to our hotel via Devon’s picturesque South Hams Region, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Day 3: Following a leisurely breakfast today, we head eastward along the coast road, via Teignmouth and Dawlish, to Bicton Park Botanical Gardens, which are described as "a delight for gardeners" and boast many rare and beautiful species collected from around the world. Beautiful in all seasons, Bicton is particularly special in autumn with a wonderful display of seasonal colour. Attractions include the Palm, Tropical, Arid and Temperate Houses, as well as an arboretum, a countryside museum and the Bicton Woodland Railway. Refreshments may be enjoyed in the on-site café which overlooks the stunning 300-year-old Italian Garden (admission to gardens included; woodland railway fare extra & payable on the day).

Day 4: We bid farewell to the Headland after breakfast and take a scenic route through East Devon and into Dorset, where we historic Sherborne, without doubt, one of the most beautiful towns in England, boasting an abundance of medieval buildings, a superb abbey, two castles and a delightful shopping area.

After lunch, we continue our journey back to Essex, with comfort stops en-route.
