Boon’s Calibre Travel 2022

Cornwall in Springtime

Departs Friday 4th March 2022 for 5 days, half-board

Spring arrives in Cornwall much earlier than in the rest of the country and whilst the county is a delight at any time of the year, springtime is generally considered the best time to visit; when the famous gardens are a riot of bloom and the countryside is awash with colour. Our tour takes in Trewithen, one of the Great Gardens of Cornwall, along with visits to the pretty Roseland Peninsula & St Mawes, the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey, the cathedral city of Truro, the charming resort of St Ives, and Cornwall Gold & Pearl, with its stunning array of jewellery.

Our hotel is the welcoming, family run 3* Rosemundy House, an elegant Queen Anne residence dating back to the 1780’s, beautifully situated amongst secluded gardens & woodlands, where we are assured of a warm welcome and excellent cuisine. The Rosemundy is ideally situated to explore the county of Cornwall and is also a comfortable home-from-home when at leisure. All well appointed en-suite bedrooms are on either the ground or first floor; for relaxation, there are two comfortable lounges. Meals are waitress served in the attractive restaurant.

Day 1: We depart from our local boarding points and head for the Southwest, stopping en-route for refreshments and lunch. On arrival, porters take care of our luggage while we settle into our rooms.

Day 2: After breakfast today, we travel to the Roseland Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with pretty villages and unrivalled coastal scenery. The Roseland’s principal village, St Mawes, is situated at the southern end of the peninsula; a picturesque harbour with whitewashed houses guarded by Henry VIII’s clover-leaf shaped St Mawes Castle. This afternoon, we visit Trewithen, a magical garden regarded as one of the Great Gardens of Cornwall and one of the best in England.  Home to a wealth of exciting, rare and beautiful plants and trees, including magnificent camellias, magnolias, rhododendrons and azaleas, Trewithen is at its best in spring.

Day 3: Today’s excursion takes us to the city of Truro, with its pedestrianised shopping area, historic buildings, parks and magnificent cathedral. This afternoon we head for the coast to visit pretty Mevagissey, a traditional Cornish fishing port with quaint shops and colourful cottages lining the busy harbour.

Day 4: Following breakfast we visit the charming resort and fishing village of St Ives, with its splendid beaches, fine views and mild climate. The beauty of St Ives has always attracted artists, and in recent times it has become an important centre of the arts, with museums and galleries (including the Tate) adding to its appeal. We then take a scenic route, round Mounts Bay, past the magical St Michaels Mount back to St Agnes, stopping en-route at Cornwall Gold & Pearl, who boast the largest collection of jewellery in the county.

Day 5: After breakfast, we commence our return journey, making suitable stops for refreshments & lunch

Includes: 4 nights half-board in en-suite bedrooms, porterage, ground floor rooms, disabled rooms. Note: no lift at hotel.  Evening entertainment, 3 excursions, entrance to Trewithen Garden.
