Boon’s Calibre Travel 2021

A Scottish Panorama

Departs Thursday 9th September 2021 for 5 days, half-board

A breath-taking five-day Scottish break, with three vastly contrasting excursions, radiating from our four star hotel in Irvine. We tour the glorious Trossachs and enjoy a cruise on beautiful Loch Katrine, visit the iconic Kelpies and take an unforgettable ride on the Falkirk Wheel, and, in addition, we travel alongside stunning Loch Lomond, through the beautiful Argyll Forest Park to the white painted town of Inveraray, with its majestic castle and lochside setting, before returning to our hotel, via ferry, from the coastal resort of Dunoon. A tour not to be missed.

Be assured of a warm welcome from the 4* Riverside Lodge Hotel, situated on the outskirts of the town of Irvine, on the Ayrshire coast, one of Scotland’s most beautiful areas. The hotel offers a superb range of facilities, comfortable, modern en-suite bedrooms, a contemporary Brasserie restaurant and a spacious lounge. There is no lift; however, there are many ground floor rooms, including one equipped for the disabled.

Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points we make our way northward, with comfort stops en-route. On arrival in Scotland, we are welcomed by the staff of the Riverside Hotel and porters take care of our luggage.

Day 2: Our first excursion takes us to the Helix Visitor Centre, home of the iconic Kelpies, two magnificent 30 metre high, steel horses’ heads, created by Andy Scott, Time to take refreshment and to admire the largest equine sculptures in the world before we visit the Falkirk Wheel, an exceptional feat of engineering, and the only rotating boatlift in the world. We board one of the specially designed pleasure boats, for the unforgettable experience of being gently lifted by one of the gondolas to join the Union Canal above, and then gracefully returned to the basin below, all the while, enjoying stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Day 3: Our beautifully scenic route today takes us northward, along the western shore of stunning Loch Lomond, via the villages of Tarbet & Arrochar – at the tip of Loch Long, through Glen Croe and the “Rest and be Thankful” pass, to the distinctive white painted town of Inveraray, on the shore of Loch Fyne, with its majestic castle, maritime museum and famous old jail. We return alongside Loch Eck and through the glorious Argyle Forest Park to the resort of Dunoon, from where we take the short sea crossing to Gourock and back to our hotel.

Day 4: For our final day in Scotland, we head into the forested hills, mountains & lochs of the Trossachs, where the Scottish hero, Rob Roy Macgregor, roamed. We stop in the attractive village of Aberfoyle, on the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, before continuing on to breath-taking Loch Katrine, where we have an included cruise on the pleasure boat Rob Roy III. We return via Brig o’Turk, Loch Venachar and the town of Callander, of Dr Finlay’s Casebook fame.

Day 5: We depart soon after breakfast for our journey home, making suitable stops for refreshments & lunch.
