Easter Weekend…

Yorkshire’s Treasures

Departs Friday 18th April 2025 for 4 days, half-board

Our Easter weekend break is based in Yorkshire and explores some of the county’s many treasures, including historic cities, picture-book villages and rolling countryside. Our wonderful tour takes us to “chocolate box” Thornton-Le-Dale, the attractive market town of Beverley, “picture-perfect” Hutton-Le-Hole, the magnificent city of York and the Burton Constable Estate, with its grand Elizabethan Hall and Capability Brown, Grade II listed, grounds. In addition, we visit the Lincolnshire “Cheese & Pork Pie” town of Melton Mobray en-route. We hope you can join us.

Our hotel is East Yorkshire’s modern Best Western “Signature Collection” 4* Humber View Hotel, beautifully situated within 17 acres of landscaped grounds, in North Ferriby, with stunning views of the famous Humber Bridge, once the longest single-span suspension bridge on earth. All stylish en-suite bedrooms are tastefully furnished and well equipped, there is a contemporary wine bar and restaurant, with panoramic views of the Humber Estuary. The leisure centre boasts a gym, sauna and spa. No lift, but several ground floor bedrooms.

Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points, we head north, our route taking us past the vast expanse of Rutland Water to the market town of Melton Mobray, famous for Stilton Cheese and Pork Pies, where we make a lunchtime visit. Continuing on, we arrive at our hotel in good time for dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast, we visit historic Beverley, with its attractive town centre of cobbled streets and charming courtyards, boasting high street brands, intermingled with smaller independent shops, and its bustling open-air market. The town is famous for its unspoilt medieval skyline and splendid 13th century Minster, widely regarded as one of Europe’s finest Gothic churches. This afternoon, we visit the Burton Constable Estate, with its grand Elizabethan Hall and Capability Brown, Grade II listed, grounds. In the hall there are thirty magnificently furnished rooms to explore, with knowledgeable guides on hand to explain the features. Outside, there is the natural beauty of the grounds, lakes and gardens themselves, as well the newly refurbished stable block, housing the café and gift shop, and the Orangery, a fabulous example of an 18th century hothouse.

Day 3: Today we head across the rolling Yorkshire Wolds to the edge of the North York Moors, where we visit the “chocolate box” village of Thornton-Le-Dale, with its thatched cottages, idyllic gardens and a stream that flows alongside the street. Time to explore, and to visit the “Bangers & Cash” gift shop, before we head into the Moor, where we find the equally beautiful village of Hutton-Le–Hole, with its ancient stone houses, sheep grazing on the grassy banks and “picture-perfect” bubbling beck. Enjoy lunch and perhaps a visit to the local museum, before we return to our hotel (museum entrance at own expense)

Day 4: We depart after breakfast, and commence our return journey. Our visit today is to the fascinating, walled city of York, renowned for its exquisite architecture, tangle of quaint cobbled streets, including the famous Shambles, and the iconic York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe.
