Boon’s Calibre Travel 2025 Lakes, Dales & the Mersey Beat includes an evening coach tour through Blackpool Illuminations Departs Monday 22nd September 2025 for 5 days, half-board
We’d love you to join us on this splendid 5-day break, with its three feature-packed excursions, highlighting some of the many treasures of the North West. We have a day in the glorious Lake District National Park, with visits to Cartmel and Bowness; we travel through Pendle Witch Country to the Yorkshire Dales, where we spend time in Skipton and Calendar Girls Country; and we take a “Ferry ‘cross the Mersey” in the vibrant, musical city of Liverpool, and visit its magnificent cathedral. In addition, there will be an evening coach tour through the “not to be missed” Blackpool Illuminations. On our travelling days, we have a lunchtime visit to the fascinating Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and a tour through the beautiful Peak District National Park.
Our hotel is the popular 3 star standard Legacy Preston International, an impressive modern building, in the Lancashire town of Preston, ideally located or our tour. All bedrooms are well equipped and offer en-suite facilities; there a lift and two room have a walk-in shower.
Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points, we make our way north, stopping for a lunchtime visit at the fascinating Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, where we have the opportunity to visit the award-winning exhibition to learn about the Wars of the Roses and the build up to the Bosworth Campaign, and also how the Battlefield was rediscovered following a five-year-long survey. Continuing on, we complete our journey to Lancashire, arriving at our hotel in good time for dinner.
Day 2: This morning, we head northward into the Lake District National Park, where we visit the historic village of Cartmel, winner of numerous awards for its floral displays and home of the Sticky Toffee Pudding. Continuing on, via Newby Bridge, we travel along the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, to the resort of Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria’s most popular destination and home to many attractions, speciality shops and cafes. We return to our hotel, where an early dinner will be served. Take time to relax for the evening or join our included evening coach tour of the spectacular Blackpool Illuminations. We enjoy a six-mile drive through the breathtaking annual spectacle, which has been one of the resort’s most popular attractions since 1879. It’s said that everyone should see the illuminations at least once in their lifetime, so join us for the “greatest free light show on earth”.
Day 3: After breakfast today, we head eastward into the county of Yorkshire, our journey taking us through Pendle Witch Country, to the castle town of Skipton “Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales”, with its bustling street market and award-winning High Street. This afternoon, we travel into Calendar Girls Country, our route taking us via Rylstone & Cracoe (home of the real life Calendar Girls) and on to the attractive Dales market town of Grassington (one of the film locations), with its charming cobbled square.
Day 4: Following breakfast today, we explore the fascinating city of Liverpool, renowned for its maritime history and world-beating musical heritage. On arrival, we visit the magnificent Anglican Cathedral, Britain's biggest and the fifth largest in Europe. We then head for the revitalised waterfront area, with its many shops and attractions, including the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Liverpool and the award-winning Beatles Story. This afternoon, we take a “Ferry ’cross the Mersey” and enjoy breathtaking views and a full commentary on the history of the area.
Day 5: On leaving our hotel we make our way homeward, our journey taking us via the beautiful scenery of the Peak District National Park. We make a lunchtime visit to one of the pretty stone-built villages, before completing our journey home, with suitable comfort stops en-route.
