Boon’s Calibre Travel 2025 Dorset Delights…Autumn Tints Departs Monday 27th October 2025 for 4 days half board
Join us for a lovely 4-day break based in the South Coast's premier resort, Bournemouth “Queen of the South Coast”. Our two included excursions take us to the petty village of Burley in the heart of the beautiful New Forest National Park, glorious Exbury Gardens and Victorian Swanage. In addition, we take a nostalgic journey on the Swanage Steam Railway and have time at leisure in our resort of Bournemouth. On our outward & return journeys we visit historic Chichester, picture-book Steyning and popular Polhill.
Located on the prestigious East Cliff, overlooking the bay, Bournemouth’s 4* Cumberland is just a short stroll from the beach and the vibrant town centre. This iconic Art Deco hotel boasts well-appointed public areas, stylish en-suite bedrooms, some with stunning sea views, and a restaurant serving delicious meals made from locally sourced produce. There is a lift and some rooms have a walk-in shower. Guests may use the indoor swimming pool in the neighbouring sister hotel. Day 1: We depart from our local boarding points, and make our way southward, stopping en-route in the historic city of Chichester, which lies between two areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the South Downs and Chichester Harbour, with its compact centre, boasting an excellent range of shops, an elaborate market cross and a magnificent Norman cathedral. Our journey continues through the beautiful New Forest and on to our hotel, where we enjoy welcome refreshments, while porters take care of our luggage.
Day 2: Today’s excursion take us to the Isle of Purbeck, where we board the Swanage Steam Railway (single fare included) for a nostalgic journey past the striking ruins of Corfe Castle, through the countryside to the Victorian seaside resort of Swanage, at the eastern edge of the world famous Jurassic Coast. We return to our hotel for time at leisure in Bournemouth, with its award-winning beaches, gardens and vibrant centre.
Day 3: This morning we head in to the heart of the New Forest, where we visit Burley, a village oozing with old world charm, with ponies and cattle roaming freely, and pretty thatched cottages and traditional shops and cafes. Continuing one, we arrive at Exbury, a wonderful garden, established over a hundred years ago, designed and curated by the de Rothschild family. Beautifully situated on the edge of the National Park, Exbury’s glorious gardens have colour and interest in all seasons. The vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of autumn are a sight to see, with fiery Acers and the National Plant Collection of Nyssa trees, set amidst a vibrant backdrop of dogwoods and majestic oak trees (admission included).
Day 4: On leaving our hotel we make our way home, our route taking us through rolling hills of the South Downs, the UK’s newest National Park, to Steyning, one of the prettiest Sussex towns, with its fine High Street, lined with historic buildings and an array of independent retailers, selling a wide variety of goods. Continuing on, we reach the popular Polhill Garden Centre & Shopping Village, where we make a stop before returning to Essex.
