Autumn Tints…Glorious Pembrokeshire,

Ceredigion & Carmarthenshire

Departs Friday 27th October 2023 for 4 days, half-board

Treat yourself to a few days away from it all on our lovely Autumn Tints tour…As summer’s greenery turns into the astonishing array of golds, yellows & oranges of autumn, our lovely weekend break takes us to a delightful corner of Wales, where we explore the neighbouring counties of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion & Carmarthenshire. We enjoy the stunning coastline of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, with visits to the charming seaside towns of Saundersfoot & Tenby. We also spend some time in the picturesque resorts of New Quay and Aberaeron, beautifully situated overlooking the blue waters of Cardigan Bay. In addition, we discover the history of the Welsh wool industry, visit the amazing National Botanic Garden of Wales, and take in the charming Wiltshire own of Bradford-on-Avon on our outward journey.

Our hotel is the family run 3* Ivy Bush Royal, centrally located in the market town of Carmarthen. This historic hotel, once a favoured retreat of Lord Nelson & Lady Hamilton, has been sympathetically modernised to blend its old world charm with modern facilities. The air-conditioned restaurant serves a varied selection of carefully prepared meals, while the lounge and outdoor patio are perfect for relaxing after a busy day. All en-suite bedrooms are comfortably furnished and well equipped, there is also a lift.

Day 1: We depart from our local boarding points and head for the west, stopping en-route in the charming, vibrant Wilshire town of Bradford-upon-Avon, which boasts a wealth of architectural treasures and delightful, narrow streets, lined with attractive shops and cafes. After lunch, we cross the Welsh border and reach our hotel in good time for dinner.

Day 2: After breakfast today, we travel across country to the pretty coastal village of New Quay “the Pride of Cardigan Bay” where picturesque houses cling to the side of the hills, which rise up from the blue waters of the sheltered harbour and the beautiful, gently sloping, sandy beaches. Look out for the Dolphins which can often be seen from the pier. Our lunch stop is further along the coast at the attractive resort of Aberaeron, known as Ceredigion’s “Jewel in the Crown”, a charming Regency town with multi-coloured houses lining its harbour. Our final visit of the day is to the National Wool Museum, where we discover the story of the Welsh wool industry and visit the shop and café.

Day 4: Today’s excursion takes us via the castle town of Laugharne, former home of poet Dylan Thomas, and past the vast expanse of Pendine Sands, scene of many land-speed record attempts, to delightful Saundersfoot, a coastal village renowned for its local cuisine, beautifully situated in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. We spend the afternoon enjoying the ancient walled town of Tenby, an iconic seaside town with a colourful harbour, beautiful sandy beaches, medieval streets, lined with a multitude of small shops, and magnificent views out to Caldey Island.

Day 4: Before crossing the border into England, we visit the beautiful National Botanic Garden of Wales, the first national botanic garden of the millennium, with its historic and futuristic buildings, horticultural displays and flower meadows, lakes and walks, shops and cafes. The garden's centrepiece is the Great Glasshouse, an amazing tilted glass dome, containing a Mediterranean landscape, with rock terraces and sheer faces cut by streams and waterfalls, and a lake, which provides a humid habitat at the foot of a six-metre deep ravine. Award-winning water sculptures link the past with the present, bringing 1790s garden and lake design side by side with contemporary art design. On leaving the garden, we make our way home, with comfort stops en-route
