Boon’s Calibre Travel 2021

 Royal Norfolk

Departs Friday 2nd July 2021 for 4 days, half-board

The county of Norfolk is such a splendid region that it deserves to explored in depth, and on this lovely tour, we hope to achieve just that. For your delight, we have included two excursions around the area, taking in the historic resort of Wells-next-to-Sea, the market town of Sheringham, Royal Sandringham and Norfolk Lavender. To further enhance your enjoyment, and to ensure your holiday is a genuine four day break, visit the Wisbech Rose Fair, Coton Orchard Garden Centre and pretty Wroxham, and also take a ride on the Bure Valley Railway.

The AA 4* Knights Hill Hotel and Spa, a member of the Best Western Signature Collection, is the wonderful hotel that we’ve used for our Thursford mini-breaks for many years. Sitting in 11 acres of grounds and gardens, this former hunting lodge boasts spacious accommodation, with smartly decorated bedrooms and elegant public areas.  Bedrooms are spread across two floors, ground and first, all have en-suite facilities and there is one adapted for the disabled. For relaxation, there is an indoor swimming pool. The hotel even has its own pub, the Farmer's Arms, with its exposed wooden beams and traditional ambience. Note: no lift

Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points, we make our way to Norfolk, stopping en-route for morning refreshments at the Polhill Coton Orchard Garden Centre. Continuing on, we arrive at the market town of Wisbech, Capital of the Fens, with its elegant Georgian architecture. Our visit coincides with the Wisbech Rose Fair, one of the finest flower festivals in England.  Ample time to take lunch, and view the stunning floral displays, before we complete our journey to the Knights Hill Hotel, where porters take care of our luggage, while we settle into our rooms.

Day 2: Today’s excursion takes us along the coast road to one of the most attractive towns on the north Norfolk coast, Wells-next-to-Sea. A beautiful, historic seaside resort, Wells has a long sweeping beach, a sheltered colourful harbour and a wealth of charming shops, pubs & restaurants.  Continuing on, we reach the traditional market town of Sheringham, “jewel of the north Norfolk coast”, where there will be time to take lunch and to explore the quaint town and seafront. We return across country to our hotel.

Day 3: After breakfast this morning we visit nearby Norfolk Lavender, England’s Premier Lavender farm, where there will be time for coffee, before we make our way to the Sandringham Estate (admission included), the Queen’s much loved country retreat. The magnificent house, built in 1870, has been passed down through four generations of British Monarchs and is surrounded by 60 acres of beautiful gardens. Also in the grounds is the medieval Sandringham Church, where the Royal family worship, and a museum, which houses many items of interest, including the Royal vintage motor vehicles – its prize exhibits.

Day 4: After breakfast today, we make our way to the ancient market town of Aylsham, where we board the Bure Valley Steam Railway, for a scenic 9 mile ride to the pretty village of Wroxham. Wroxham & Hoveton St John, are connected villages sitting astride the River Bure. Collectively known as Wroxham “capital of the Norfolk Broads”, the two villages boast a multitude of shops, attractions and eating places, including the famous Roy’s department store. After a lovely day, we continue our journey home.
