Boon’s Calibre Travel 2026

The Splendours of North Wales

Monday 27th July 2026 for 5 days, half-board

This magical 5- day tour takes in the outstanding beauty of North Wales and boasts three carefully planned excursions, with something to suit all tastes. Highlights include…a tour of the Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd St Distillery, a scenic ride on the Bala Lake Railway, the beautiful Isle of Anglesey and time in the Victorian coastal towns of Beaumaris and Llandudno. In addition, we visit the pretty Welsh village of Llangollen, situated within a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the James Pringle Visitor Centre and the world famous Victorian railway station with the longest name (Llanfair P.G. for short). On our travelling days, we explore Warwick, with its magnificent castle, and the historic market town of Bridgnorth.

Our hotel for this tour is the popular, independently run 3* standard Beaufort Park, a modern building situated in a semi-rural setting near the Welsh border town of Mold. All en-suite bedrooms are well appointed and are situated on the ground and first floors. There is no lift, therefore, if you are unable to manage a flight of stairs, please request a ground floor bedroom when booking. On arrival at the hotel we will be greeted with a welcome cup of tea or coffee and traditional Bara Birth.

Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points we head north, stopping en-route in Warwickshire’s county town, Warwick, world famous for its magnificent castle and historic charm. Situated on the River Avon, and blessed with beautiful parks and gardens, Warwick is a delightful town to explore and take lunch. Continuing on, we cross the border into Wales, where we arrive at the Beaufort Park Hotel, to be greeted with welcome refreshments.

Day 2: After breakfast today we cross the Menai Strait, via the magnificent Menai Bridge, to the beautiful Isle of Anglesey where we visit the James Pringle Visitor Centre and the world famous Victorian railway station with the longest name (Llanfair P.G. for short). This afternoon, we have time at leisure to explore the Victorian coastal town of Beaumaris, with its magnificent views across the Straits to the mainland, splendid harbour and fine moated castle. On leaving Beaumaris we return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 3: Today we travel by way of the winding Horseshoe pass to the attractive Welsh town of Llangollen, situated in the beautiful Dee Valley. This small town is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts a wealth of independent shops to browse, riverside walks, a steam railway and horse-drawn canal trips. This afternoon, we visit the peaceful village of Llanuwchllyn, home of the Bala Lake Railway. We have time to visit the welcoming café/gift shop, the signal box and loco shed/workshop, before boarding the train for a scenic journey alongside stunning Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake).  After a lovely day we return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 4: Todays tour takes us to the award-winning Penderyn Llandudno Lloyd St Distillery, set in a former 19th-century school, where we enjoy an informative tour and sample some "wisgi Cymreig" (Welsh whisky).  We spend the remainder of the day in the Victorian resort of Llandudno, a beautiful seaside town with a promenade, pier, superb beaches, elegant hotels, interesting shops, and panoramic views from the Great Orme, at the summit of its striking headland. On leaving Llandudno we return to our hotel for dinner.

Day 5: We depart from our hotel, and head home. Today’s visit is to the historic market town of Bridgnorth, uniquely split into High Town and Low Town, on the edge of the River Severn, the two parts being conveniently connected by the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway. Other attractions include, the remains of Bridgnorth Castle, the seventeenth century Bridgnorth Town Hall, the Northgate Museum and Bishop Percy’s House. Time to explore and to take lunch before we continue our journey back to Essex.
