Boon’s Calibre Travel 2026 The Delightful Dorset Coast Monday 20th July 2026 for 5 days, half board
Join us for a lovely 5-day break based in the South Coast's premier resort, Bournemouth “Queen of the South Coast”; a perfect location from which to explore the delightful county of Dorset, an area immortalised by one of its most famous residents, the Victorian novelist & poet, Thomas Hardy. Our three excursions offer plenty of variety and include visits to the floral, market town of Wimborne Minster, the traditional seaside town of Weymouth, the Isle of Portland, and the maritime town of Poole. We also allow time at leisure in our resort of Bournemouth and include a breathtaking “Poole Harbour & Island Circular Cruise”. In addition, there will be the opportunity to explore the fascinating waterfront city of Portsmouth and historic Royal Windsor on our outward and return journeys.
Located on the prestigious East Cliff, overlooking the bay, Bournemouth’s Suncliff Hotel is just a short stroll from the beach and the vibrant town centre. This 3-star standard hotel is an ideal base for our tour with its comfortably furnished en-suite bedrooms, many with stunning sea views, free Wi-Fi, welcoming Atlantis Restaurant, elegant Tropicana Lounge/Bar and top rated spa with indoor swimming pool. There is a lift, ground floor rooms, one adapted room and some rooms with walk-in shower. There is one small step into the hotel, however, a ramp is provided for the use of those with mobility issues.
Day 1: On leaving our local boarding points, we make our way to Bournemouth, stopping en-route in the fascinating waterfront city of Portsmouth, with its Historic Dockyard, ample shopping facilities and spectacular Spinnaker Tower. Alternatively, the neighbouring genteel resort of Southsea, with its pretty seafront gardens and other attractions, is well worth a visit. Our journey continues through the beautiful New Forest and on to our hotel, where we enjoy welcome refreshments while porters take care of our luggage.
Day 2: Today’s excursion takes us across the Purbeck Downs and alongside Chesil Beach, to the Isle of Portland, home of the famous Portland Stone and a mecca for bird watchers. On reaching the southernmost tip of the Island, there will be time refreshments and photos of the iconic lighthouse and the dramatic Pulpit Rock, jutting out to sea; perhaps pay a visit the Portland Bill Visitor Centre (admission extra). This afternoon we visit the ever popular, traditional seaside town of Weymouth, set on a breath-taking Georgian bay, with its level promenade, fascinating harbour, sandy beaches and the usual shopping areas, before returning to our hotel.
Day 3: Today we head for nearby Poole, from where we set sail on a breathtaking “Poole Harbour & Island Circular Cruise” which takes us on a journey through Poole Harbour, one of the world’s largest natural harbours, and offers a unique opportunity to soak in spectacular coastal views, learn about the region’s rich history, and witness the beauty of its famous islands, including Brownsea Island. We then cruise past Sandbanks, and millionaire’s row, home to the rich and famous, and one of the UK’s most exclusive waterfront areas. Live commentary from the knowledgeable crew, gives us an insight into the harbour’s history, wildlife, and notable landmarks. We remain in Poole to take lunch and to explore the historic quayside, quaint old town, beautiful beaches, and glorious parks and gardens. Although, the original (famous) Poole Pottery is no longer based in the town, there is a ceramics shop on the Quay still selling this famous band. After a lovely day, we return to our hotel.
Day 4: After breakfast today, we visit the floral, market town of Wimborne Minster, beautifully situated on the banks of the rivers Stour and Allen, with its majestic Minster Church, model town, and pretty streets and courtyards. We spend this afternoon in our resort of Bournemouth, with its award-winning beaches, gardens and vibrant centre.
Day 5: On leaving Bournemouth, we make our way home, our journey taking us to Royal Windsor, a wonderfully historic town, dominated by its magnificent castle, boasting a comprehensive shopping centre and multitude of attractions.
